ATRA MOULD TORONTO, Aug. 12 /CNW/ - WHAT: The Region of Peel, together with the local school boards, will
hold a news conference to discuss the health effects of
Stachybotrys atra (S. atra) mould on humans, and the actions taken
to date by the school boards. Contrary to the information provided in a media alert sent out on
August 10, 1998 (entitled Region of Peel to Hold News Conference
about Stachybotrys atra mould) a representative from the
Ministry of Health will not be available to answer questions. WHY: Recently the presence of S. atra mould in school portables has
received considerable public attention in Peel. Dr. Barbara Kawa,
Peel's Acting Medical Officer of Health, will be providing an
information report to Council on the possible health effects of S.
atra. WHEN: Thursday, August 13, 1998
